The foundation for a successful move is packing to perfection. It may seem intimidating to pack your large and likely expensive items, so we’ve created a guide explaining how to do so. This list highlights the easiest ways to move your big items such as electronics, art, mirrors, and furniture.

The foundation for a successful move is packing to perfection. It may seem intimidating to pack your large and likely expensive items, so we’ve created a guide explaining how to do so.

This list highlights the easiest ways to move your big items such as electronics, art, mirrors, and furniture.

Electronics/Appliances

Using our video on how to tape a box correctly, we recommended preparing all boxes the same way before loading your items.

Since electronics and small appliances can be heavy despite their compact sizing, put a layer of newsprint for padding, and wrap the equipment in bubble wrap. Before moving televisions and other electronics, tape control panels so they are closed and use Cable Ties or tape to bundle the cords.

Suggested Materials: Electronics boxes, Newsprint, Bubble Wrap.

Mirrors and Art

Your most coveted items should be treated like precious cargo so they can sustain their value throughout packing and unpacking.

Pack mirrors and large artwork with four-piece telescopic boxes that prevent breakage. For smaller artwork, place a layer of newsprint in the bottom of a box and add packing material (paper or peanuts) in the sides, between the items, and on the top of the box.

Label these packages as “delicate” so they are handled with even more care by the movers.

Suggested Materials: Art/Mirror Boxes, Cushioning, Bubble Wrap.

Furniture

While we’ll always suggest leaving this to the professionals if possible, it is not impossible for you to pack your own furniture.
If you can disassemble any furniture to make the move easier, be sure to put the hardware into clearly labeled reclosable bags.

Hardwood dollies should be used when moving heavy furniture. When transporting and loading, wrap furniture in moving blankets to protect from scratches and scuff marks.

Suggested Materials: Hardwood Dollies, Moving Blankets.
